81 Ystumllyn, Gwynedd

History and status

Abandoned.  Forrest (1907) reported White-fronted Geese at Ystumllyn (SH526358) and North et al. (1949) described the species as regular there.  However, there is no mention of the flock in A-W (1963), despite the fact that between 1958 and 1968, up to 30 Greenland White-fronted Geese fed on the marshes here and towards Black Rock Halt Station (SH526385).  The birds were subject to shooting and there has been considerable drainage and reclamation in this area since that time.  There have been no reports since 1968 and R&O (1979) do not mention the resort.  We know nothing about this flock, its former abundance, precise feeding range and roost sites.
